As the only Intercooler I have to compare with this is the Tamiya plastic version you can see the 2 side by side in the above picture. The plastic Tamiya intercooler has paint that chips very easily and kills the look rather quickly. R2 seems to have solved this problem by using high quality aluminum. After seeing the pictures on R2 Hobbies page I was intrigued as it looked very impressive. I must say after opening the package I was impressed with the detail.
After installing the intercooler my ride had a whole new look as this one looks extremely real with the level of detail. The only complaint I have is that you can’t pick the color of the rings around the hoses. So if you want to customize it you will need some metal paint. At 38g it certainly adds the needed weight upfront for anyone with a high CS ratio you will understand the need. Now you can ditch the ugly weights and put on this bad boy to disguise the weight!
For $17USD I must say the value is extremely good, I didn’t believe the pictures when I saw it originally as all aluminum ones I had seen were $40+USD. This is probably the best value for a quality replica intercooler you can find. Plus you get the added weight upfront, and one hell of a fresh look.
If you want to finish your ride off with a new intercooler this is the one for you, with it’s high quality aluminum construction you can feel confident this will last. As you can see in the pictures below there are no burs or metal flakes on the intercooler to clean off. It is ready to go and will mount on very easily to your existing chassis!
