The MS-01D Pro is priced at the higher end of this price range, but is very well equipped. The chassis comes with many adjustments that are not included in others without option parts. The Pro edition is equipped with some hop-ups for greater performance than the MS-01D S edition. This chassis is now becoming very popular among drifters everywhere. |
Eagle Racing R31-FM

Eagle racing has been an aftermarket manufacturer for Tamiya and Street Jam chassis for a couple of years now. After making pretty much every part to replace the popular Street Jam R31 chassis, they decided to create their own front motor chassis based on the R31 design. This R31-FM is the first full Eagle Racing chassis to hit the market. It is very inexpensive for the amount of aluminum and carbon fiber included. The downside of the front motor configuration is the amount of time it requires to maintain and disassemble the front bulkhead section. |

Tamiya has always been a well known brand in the RC industry. Their products are always sought after and often become collector items once discontinued. This is the latest evolution of the initian VDF, now equipped with a 3 belt drive system. This new drivetrain allows for more countersteer options, however Tamiya has failed in providing countersteer kits for their chassis. Your only hope are aftermarket option part makers like Eagle Racing, or RC Square. Tamiya does have an optional “Drift Spec” upgrade for greater steering angle, and is somewhat helpful. The only real problem with this chassis is genuine Tamiya parts are expensive, otherwise quite capable. |

Yokomo has always been at the forefront of RC Drifting. The Drift Package series has always been a great beginner package and the Type C is an upgraded edition of that chassis. This much improved version has more upgrades for better adjustability and tuneability. The only big problem is the torque steer in the rear motor shaft drivetrain. Torque steer has traditionally been a problem with shaft driven chassis, however they are more versatile for outdoor and rugged terrain drifting. The Yokomo DP Type C is a good platform for the intermediate drifters. The traditional Drift Package can also be upgraded to the Type C through a series of upgrades. |

This chassis was based from an old HPI RS4 belt drive chassis design. It was rehashed to be more modern but falls short of its goal. This looks like a patch work so that it can suit the purpose for HPI could get into the RC Drift market. The only winning factor about this chassis is the easy to get spares and option parts in North America. It is widely available in most local hobby stores and with a decent RTR package to get anyone started. This chassis has no factory countersteer options, any available out there are custom modifications to work. This can be a good way to get started, but if you get serious into the RC Drift world, it is definitely not ideal. |
Street Jam OTA-R31

The Street Jam OTA-R31 is a very interesting chassis. This was a very popular chassis during its introduction due to the longitudinal motor position. Being one of the first to utilize this battery orientation really aided its popularity. The 3 belt drive was also a very good system for countersteer CS modified drifters. This chassis has inspired many manufacturers to produce chassis with this type of battery orientation. This chassis is so popular that it has even inspired clone makers to produce it. The difference in quality is from the TEH vs OTA is quite different, do not be fooled by the similar look, get the genuine one for an adequate representation of this chassis. |

The Tamiya TB-03 VDS is the shaft equivalent of the VDF chassis. This is the highest end Tamiya shaft drive RC Drift chassis. This is the adaptation of the TB-03 series into a drift oriented chassis. The front motor position is an improvement over the traditional rear motor TB-03. Like the VDF, this will likely be a limited edition item once discontinued. Again Tamiya chassis suffer from lack of genuine countersteer options, only aftermarket parts available. This is a nice chassis to look at, but is too much plastic for its cost. |

The XXX-D is MST’s attempt at a shaft driven RC Drift chassis. This chassis is very well designed with a very narrow chassis plate. This chassis has been designed to perform just as good or better than other shaft driven chassis in this class. MST also provides many countersteer CS options for this chassis. Setup with high angle steering and driveshafts, this chassis comes more capable than other chassis of this class. The value out of the box is very impressive and worth nothing. |
Let us know what you think! Stay tuned for the final post of the most expensive chassis around!
