Product Review

The attention to detail is shown in the overall quality of this product, along with other products from P!PES. The exhaust tips we are reviewing are the BFU BackFireUnit Dual 12mm Tips. The kit features two 12mm exhaust tips packed with LEDs that are connected to the Backfire control unit along with the brake lights. The kit connects to the ESC so it knows when to show the brakes and when to fire up the tips. It really looks amazing compared to anything else we have seen which typically consists of light on light off…

All LEDs are controlled by a smart chip which also reads your gas throttle to give the right effect at the right moment.

Overall Quality

There were absolutely no burrs or blemishes on the exhaust tips or backfire kit, everything was as you would expect for a realistic looking exhaust and backfire LED. The wiring is nice and clean however if you like to tape down your wires out of sight, you may wish to hang the wires as it was too short on our Yokomo GT-86 body to run up each side. We have been very impressed by the quality and strength of the exhaust tips as they are made from high quality stainless steel. As you can see from our video below it features different stages of throttle/backfire response making it look much more realistic.

Overall Value

These P!PES Backfire Exhaust kits retail for around $30 USD and come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. We have bought a lot of different exhaust tips over the years but have never seen ones so strong and weighted. The addition of the backfire unit and brake lights really completes the package. As the cost of a decent set of exhaust tips will run you around $10-25 USD and that doesn’t include backfires or brake lights. Given this we highly recommend this kit to anyone looking for a realistic looking backfire / exhaust package.
